Champion Hurdle 2008 Result

The Alan King trained Katchit came home to win the Champion Hurdle of 2008, defying the 10/1 odds and also defying the statistics for a change; Katchit was the first 5 year old to win the race since See You Then won the race in 1985.

He was however a course winner and had won the Triumph Hurdle the year before and his pedigree was proven. It was a great race and great performance from Katchit and his jockey, Chocolate Thornton, who overhauled the front running Osana as the two powered away from the field up the hill. Katchit held on brilliantly to win by a length. Punjabi, another five year old in the race ran on impressively from off the pace to finish in third. Katchit became the first horse to win the Triumph Hurdle and Champion Hurdle in successive seasons, since the Champion Hurdle legend, Persian War did so in 1968. Hot favourite for the race was Sizing Europe but he disappointed badly finishing 14th out of the fifteen starters. The winner from the previous year, Sublimity, managed a brave and creditable 4th spot.
