Main Contenders - Form Guide 2011

Menorah

Menorah threw himself into the Champion Hurdle picture with a cracking win in the Greatwood Hurdle at the Cheltenham Meeting, it was an excellent win under top weight and he now looks to be at home in this company. We know that Menorah loves Cheltenham having won the Supreme Novices last season at the Festival, with that in mind he now looks to be a real Champion Hurdle contender for Phillip Hobbs and Richard Johnson. He confirmed those claims with an excellent win in the International Hurdle at Cheltenham, he beat both Cue Card and Silviniaco Conti and proved himself a live Champion Hurdle contender.

Peddlers Cross

Peddlers Cross is a hugely exciting horse for Donald McCain jnr and looks all set for a huge run in the Champion Hurdle in March. He is a Cheltenham Festival winner having won the Neptune Novices Hurdle last season, and after winning the Fighting Fifth Hurdle this season Peddlers Cross looks to be a real Champion Hurdle contender. He has backed that up with a solid win at Kelso recently and will go to the Festival unbeaten for Donald McCain and connections.

Hurricane Fly

Hurricane Fly waited until the Hatton's Grade Hurdle at Fairyhouse to make his seasonal debut but he did not disappoint as he bolted up to claim a hugely impressive victory for Willie Mullins. It was a duel against Solwhit and once again it was Hurricane Fly who was the classier type, and he will go to the Champion Hurdle with every chance of claiming a win for Ireland if he can maintain that form. He has repeated that success with another victory over Solwhit in the Festival Hurdle at Leopardstown over Christmas and again in the Irish Champion Hurdle to see his Champion Hurdle slashed yet further.

Oscar Whisky

Nicky Henderson has another live Champion Hurdle contender in his yard in Oscar Whisky who looks to be improving with every run this season to enter the frame for the Festival. He was 4th in the Supreme Novices Hurdle last season behind Menorah but he seems to have improved more than expected this season with excellent wins at Cheltenham on New Year's Day, and again at Ffos Las most recently when he dotted up to win the Welsh Champion Hurdle.

Dunguib

Dunguib is a massively imteresting horse in the betting for the Champion Hurdle this year, he was the brilliant Champion Bumper winner in 2009 and is clearly a horse of hige talent. He ran a decent third behind Menorah and Get Me Out Of Here in the Supreme Novices Hurdle last season and it would be foolish to rule him out of running a big race at Cheltenham this season at a nice price for punters.
