Champion Hurdle Contenders 2012 - Dunguib

Perhaps the most interesting runner in the 2012 Champion Hurdle field will be Dunguib who has been a talking horse for some time now. He is a horse that first shot to fame in 2009 when he simply bolted up to win the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival and has long been touted as a star of the future. So far though, Dunguib has not quite lived up to these expectations despite a strong start to his novice hurdling career last season. Dunguib went into the Supreme Novices Hurdle unbeaten over hurdles and a massive odds-on favourite for the race; he failed to deliver though and could only finish third behind the winner Menorah.

Latest Dunguib Champion Hurdle 2011 Odds

Dunguib has had his first run since the Cheltenham Festival last season and he duly scored when odds on in the Red Mills Hurdle at Gowran Park. He was no more than workmanlike in defeating Luska Lad but he is sure to come on for the run and should benefit from better ground so looks to be a serious Champion Hudle contender. Phillip Fenton is bullish about his chances and many believe he could still be anything which is why he is such an interesting contender in the betting this year.
