There are a number of trial races for the Champion Hurdle throughout the season and they are well worth following before making a bet on the big race, all of the main contenders will be warming up for the Cheltenham Festival in the trial race so they are always have a certain amount of importance.

The Greatwood Hurdle

The Greatwood Hurdle is always one of the most important trials of the season for the Champion Hurdle as it falls early on in the season at the Open Meeting at Cheltenham, it is the first chance for some of the potential Champion Hurdles to stake their claims. It can be important as it gives the horses the chance to run at Prestbury Park which they will of course be doing on Champion Hurdle day, it can be a course that some struggle with so it can give punters plenty of clues.

The Fighting Fifth Hurdle

The Fighting Fifth Hurdle is run towards the end of November up at Newcastle and always provides a stiff test for a number of Champion Hurdle contenders. This year the race is already shaping up be an exciting one as we get ready to welcome back the 2010 Champion Hurdler, Binocular, to the track.

The International Hurdle

The International Hurdle is always one of the main races at the International Meeting in December each season, it falls at a good point of the campaign and we always see several Champion Hurdle contenders at Cheltenham for this race. Recent winners of this one include Binocular and Khyber Kim who have both proven themselves to be hurdlers of the highest quality since while Menorah has won the race in fine style this season.

The Christmas Hurdle

The Christmas Hurdle is always a cracking race on Boxing Day at Kempton as it falls on King George Day, there is always a massive crowd at Kempton and the racing is of the highest quality. The race forms the second leg of the WBX Hurdling Triple Crown which gives any horse that wins the Fighting Fifth, the Christmas Hurdle and the Champion Hurdle itself a 31million bonus.
