Binocular - Champion Hurdle Contenders 2014

Age: 9

Trainer: Nicky Henderson

Jockey: AP McCoy

Binocular has been towards the top of the hurdling division since he was a superb winner of the Adonis Juvenile Hurdle in 2008 and following on from that fine Kempton Park victory, the Nicky Henderson-trained star has gone on to be placed in a Supreme Novices' Hurdle, as well as win the Champion Hurdle and a number of other Grade One crowns.

A superstar when he is at his best, the JP McManus-owned raider had his day in the limelight when storming to a mightily-impressive victory in the 2010 Champion Hurdle and he is all set to return to the Cheltenham Festival on March 12 to try and regain the title he won with such aplomb.

Having missed the chance of retaining his crown in 2011, Binocular then had to put up with fourth place in last year's race, as Rock On Ruby stormed to success, but if the Seven Barrows team can get him back to his best then the nine-year-old will be a leading player come up the opening day of the Festival.

He may not be the Henderson number one now with Grandouet flying the flag for the Seven Barrows team, but he has always been a tough nut to crack on top form and that's why the bookmakers have priced him up in the latest Champion Hurdle Betting and he can't be discounted in what is turning into a real classic renewal.
