Cinders And Ashes

Cinders And Ashes - Champion Hurdle Contender 2014

Age: 6

Trainer: Donald McCain

Jockey: Jason Maguire

A smart bumper performer, Cinders And Ashes well and truly showed his class when he was sent over hurdles by Donald McCain and after winning a brace of Haydock Park novice hurdles, he was handed his toughest task to date in the 2012 Supreme Novices' Hurdle on the opening day of the Cheltenham Festival.

Producing a magical display, Jason Maguire sent his mount to the front and even a final flight blunder couldn't halt his momentum and he duly pulled clear of Darlan to land the Supreme title and cement his place as one of the leading novice hurdlers for the season.

Going into the 2012/2013 season Cinders And Ashes was already prominent in the 2013 Champion Hurdle Betting market, but things didn't start off in great fashion as he was trounced by last year's Triumph Hurdle winner Countrywide Flame in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle, but connections hoped for better fortunes in the Christmas Hurdle.

However, he was well and truly beaten by Darlan in the Kempton Park Grade One on Boxing Day as Nicky Henderson's raider pulled clear of him in the closing stages to get his own back on that aforementioned Supreme defeat.  Yet he should not be written off for the 2013 Champion Hurdle as he has great ability on his day and relishes the test of Cheltenham and come March 12 he will be a leading contender for the prize.
