Grandouet - Champion Hurdle Contenders 2014

Age: 6

Trainer: Nicky Henderson

Jockey: Barry Geraghty

Grandouet was fully expected to be a leading contender in last year's Champion Hurdle, but the Nicky Henderson-trained raider was forced to miss the Cheltenham Festival highlight after picking up an injury following his impressive victory in the International Hurdle.

However, the Seven Barrows inmate will be hoping that he can stay injury-free from now until March 12 and if he does take his chance will be another leading light for Henderson who has an embarrassment of riches heading into what wil be a phenomenal extravaganza over the four days in March.

After finishing third in the 2011 Triumph Hurdle, Grandouet then went on to win at the Punchestown Festival and when he won the International Hurdle, beating the likes of Menorah and Overturn, he ventured into the elite of the 2m hurdling division, but with a year off the track he had to find his feet again in the top sphere.

12 months on and he contested the International Hurdle and after travelling well he was just outbattled by a race-fit Zarkandar, but bookmakers were impressed and cut him slightly in the 2013 Champion Hurdle Betting and they believe he will be one of the main principles heading into a race that is full of talent.
