Hurricane Fly

Hurricane Fly - Champion Hurdle Contender 2014

Age: 10

Trainer: Willie Mullins

Jockey: Ruby Walsh

Hurricane Fly regained his Champion Hurdle crown at the 2013 Cheltenham Festival when producing a scintillating display to land the coveted Grade One prize for the second time in his illustrious career and the Willie Mullins-trained superstar will now head to Prestbury Park on March 11 aiming to win his third title.

Having landed the prize in 2011 he was forced to settle for the minor honours in 2012 when beaten by Rock On Ruby, but the Irish winning machine returned to the top of the pile in 2013 as he stormed up the famous hill to beat the aforementioned Rock On Ruby by two-and-a-quarter lengths to cement his place as one of the leading hurdlers of all time.

A career that has seen him amassed a plethora of Grade One successes over timber, the 10-year-old has started the 2013/2014 campaign in fine style as after winning the Morgiana Hurdle, he then followed up by beating up-and-coming duo Jezki and Our Conor in the Ryanair Hurdle at Leopardstown over the Christmas period to land his 18th Grade One success.

Hurricane Fly then secured his place at the head of the Irish challenge as he outbattled the aforementioned pair of Jezki and Our Conor to land his fourth Irish Champion Hurdle, with the latter providing the toughest test in what was another vintage display by the veteran.

That resounding victory saw him propel back towards the head of the 2014 Champion Hurdle betting and he will now be aiming to reign supreme in the elite Championship race in a season that could see a whole host of first rate contenders take their chance in the event.
