Rock On Ruby

Rock On Ruby - Champion Hurdle Contender 2013

Age: 8

Trainer: Harry Fry

Jockey: Noel Fehily

Rock On Ruby burst on to the scenes when finishing a superb runner-up to Bobs Worth in the 2010 Classic Novices' Hurdle before returning to Cheltenham for the Neptune, where he was a gallant second in a memorable renewal of the Grade One contest.

However, it was his performances the following year that cemented his place in Festival history as he stormed to success in the 2012 Champion Hurdle with a superb display, beating Overturn by three-and-three-quarter lengths.  Under the stewardship of Paul Nicholls' satellite stable, the son of Oscar sprinted clear of some top rivals including Hurricane Fly and Binocular to land the coveted prize.

He may have been a shock 11/1 winner that day, but the eight-year-old will now return to Prestbury Park for the 2013 renewal and he can't be discounted around a racecourse that certainly fits his style of running.

Now running solely for Harry Fry, the gelding will be looking to be the first horse since Hardy Eustace in 2005 to retain his crown and if Fry can get him to full fitness then he has shown that he is more than good enough to land a blow at the top level.

He was outbattled by a race-fit Zarkandar and Grandouet in the International Hurdle, but he then bounced back to winning ways when captialising on a last flight fall from Darlan in the Listed 32Red Hurdle at Doncaster and he will now head to Prestbury Park as one of the leading players in the Champion Hurdle Betting.
